While research showed contact lenses are safe for preteens, many optometrists wanted to wait until the teenage years to fit kids for contracts. Exponent PR enlisted the aid of leading optometrists and researchers who could cite personal experience and university research to show preteens can be as responsible and successful as teens in wearing and caring for lenses. Outreach focused on optometry publications, professional meetings and online initiatives, starting a trend among optometrists of fitting younger patients.
